e-Thaksalawa is the official e-learning portal developed by Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Education. It operates as the largest MOOC platform within the country’s general education system, offering free and structured online learning materials aligned with the national curriculum for Grades 1 through 13, including GCE O/L and A/L streams, as well as general knowledge content.
The platform delivers a broad spectrum of learning materials including syllabi, textbooks, creative lesson modules, teacher guides, past and model exam papers, and interactive audiovisual content customized for primary and secondary education levels in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.
e-Thaksalawa seeks to bridge educational equity by providing multilingual content and mobile-friendly access to students across all regions, including areas limited by geography or socio-economic barriers. It ensures inclusive learning opportunities and continuity—even for learners who have missed school due to lockdowns or other disruptions.
The platform has been formally recognized with national and regional awards for excellence in e-content, including the e-Swabhimani National e-Content Award and the Manthan South Asia e-Content Award in 2014.
