Established under the CEB Act No. 17 of 1969, the Ceylon Electricity Board is Sri Lanka’s national power utility. It operates under the Ministry of Power and Energy and is responsible for end-to-end electricity services—including generation, transmission, distribution, and retail—across the island.

As Sri Lanka’s near-monopoly electricity provider, CEB adheres to energy policies, regulatory standards, and renewable energy targets. Its 2024 restructuring act aims to modernize the power sector and enable greater renewable integration and efficiency.
