           <title>Sri Lanka Law College Colombo - Legal Education Overview</title>
           <description>Sri Lanka Law College (SLLC), established in 1874 and located at 244 Hulftsdorp Street, Colombo 12, is the sole institution in Sri Lanka authorised to admit students to the legal profession as Attorneys-at-Law. It operates under the Incorporated Council of Legal Education and is overseen by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The college is renowned for producing some of Sri Lanka’s most respected legal professionals and jurists.

Academic Curriculum
SLLC offers a three-year structured program consisting of the Preliminary, Intermediate, and Final Years. The curriculum includes subjects such as Law of Persons, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Law of Contracts, Civil Procedure, Commercial Law, Property Law, and Law of Evidence. LL.B. degree holders from recognised universities may qualify for exemptions from some examinations, subject to Council approval.

Admissions &amp; Entrance
Admission is primarily through the General Entrance Examination conducted annually. Applicants must possess at least three passes at the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination. LL.B. graduates from recognised universities or foreign-qualified lawyers may apply through a separate pathway. Apprenticeship &amp; Practical Training
Upon successful completion of the Final Year exams, candidates are required to complete a six-month period of apprenticeship under a practicing attorney with over eight years of standing. In addition, they must attend the Practical Training Course (PTC) conducted by the Law College to be eligible for admission to the bar by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.

Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS)
The Institute of Advanced Legal Studies was established to offer continuing legal education to Attorneys-at-Law. It conducts diploma programs in key areas such as Intellectual Property Law, Corporate Law, Banking &amp; Finance Law, and International Trade Law. These programs are designed for working professionals and support the professional development of Sri Lanka’s legal community.
