Helakuru began in 2012 as a phonetic Sinhala keyboard app created by Bhasha Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. and has since evolved into Sri Lanka’s most widely used SuperApp—featuring Sinhala-English-Tamil typing, HelaPay digital payments, Esana breaking news alerts, chat features, adverts, dictionary, and other tools.
Developed by University of Moratuwa‑trained entrepreneur Dhanika Perera, Helakuru was launched to bridge the language barrier on Android and iOS devices in Sri Lanka. It quickly gained traction, surpassing 10 million downloads by 2024. Today, the platform expands through PKU-style SaaS services and ecosystem collaboration under Bhasha Lanka’s tech‑driven leadership.

With partner HSLA deployments (e.g. SLT), it scales regionally while maintaining low operational overhead.
