About Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct
The Old Dutch Hospital—built in 1681 by the Dutch East India Company as a functional hospital—is one of Colombo Fort’s oldest surviving buildings. It has since housed a police station and apothecary before its restoration in 2011. Managed by the UDA, the building retains its colonial-era charm while offering modern hospitality and retail experiences

Architecture & Restoration
The complex consists of five colonnaded wings centered around two shaded courtyards. Thick half-meter walls, large teak beams, and clay-tiled roofs provide a cool, tranquil atmosphere. Long verandas and wooden staircases evoke its 17th-century design

Dining & Nightlife
A diverse range of restaurants, upscale cafés, and bars fill the precinct. Notable venues include:
• Ministry of Crab – Sri Lankan crab specialty
• The Gallery Café – artisanal coffee & art
• Spa Ceylon – aromatherapy & wellness
• Heladiv Tea Club and T-Lounge by Dilmah – premium teas
Live music and events animate the courtyards after dark

Retail & Souvenirs
Boutique shops line the corridors offering handmade crafts, fashion, jewelry, artwork, and locally branded goods—ideal for unique gift or souvenir hunting

Cultural & Community Events
The precinct hosts regular live performances, seasonal themed evenings (such as Christmas tree lighting), and culinary events, drawing locals and tourists alike
