About Colombo National Museum
Sri Lanka’s largest museum, founded on 1 January 1877 by Governor William Gregory, is housed in an Italianate neoclassical building designed by James Smither. Key Exhibits & Galleries
• Fetish highlights include the throne and crown jewels of the last King of Kandy, on display since 1934.
• Ancient Buddhist art: 4th–5th C. Toluvila seated Buddha statue, 6th C. Badulla bronze preaching Buddha.
